How CEREC Crowns Are Changing the Area of Dentistry

At Peters Dental Associates, patients in and around the community of Houston, TX can speak with a professional about restoring their smile. In addition to providing beautiful restorations such as dental crowns, patients can also visit Dr. M.H. Peters, Jr. to learn about the advantages of same-day restorations.

How the process of obtaining dental crowns has changed

In other dental practices in the area, patients obtaining dental crown may need plenty of time to complete the process. This is because preparations for the crown, including permanent removal of tooth enamel, is done prior to impressions which are then sent to a dental laboratory. This laboratory may be several states away. The dentist sends off the impressions with specific instructions for the ceramist designing the crown, and then places a temporary crown over the prepared tooth. Patients are required to visit again at a later time to remove the temporary restoration and bond the final dental crown in place.

However, at the practice of Peters Dental Associate, the process is entirely different! The tooth is prepared for a dental crown, and then digital impressions are made and sent to a CAD/CAM software used with our CEREC machine. The device then mills the restoration out of a block of porcelain right in the dental office. Patients often wait about 15 to 20 minutes while their restoration is fabricated. The doctor then places the dental crown during the same visit, and patients can leave the office with a completely restored smile with no temporaries.

Are CEREC restorations high quality repairs?

Absolutely! Our practice stands behind the fabrication of restorations such as dental crowns with our CEREC device. This method of creating a dental crown is not only fast but offers a restoration that is just as strong and durable as any laboratory-created crown in the area. By using this digital device, our team can also ensure that the dental crown fits properly and looks perfect during the same appointment.
